US housing starts slipped to a five-month low in September, with building permits down and housing completions lower than the previous months.
- Privately-owned housing starts in September stood at 1.555 million, down 1.6% in September 2020. This is the lowest since April’s 1.514 million.
- The latest reading compares with the 1.580 million in August and 1.448 million the same month last year.
- Authorized building permits were recorded at 1.589 million, 7.7% down from August’s 1.721 million but 1.1% higher than 1.589 million the same month last year.
- Housing completions were at 1.240 million, down 4.6% lower than August’s 1.300 million and 13.0% lower than 1.426 million than September 2020.
