Malaysian stocks saw an upward trend for the fourth consecutive session on Wednesday. The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI MY:FBMKLCI experienced a 0.5% increase, reaching 1,504.10.
Top Performers
During this session, Sunway Bhd MY:5211, a prominent real estate/construction company, emerged as the biggest leader with a remarkable 5.7% gain. YTL Power International MY:6742 also performed well, adding 4.3% to its shares. Dialog Group MY:7277, operating in the energy sector, secured the third spot among top performers on Wednesday, with an increase of 2.8%.
Major Declines
On the other hand, Mr. D.I.Y. Group (M) MY:5296, a retail/wholesale company, experienced the largest decline with a 2.1% decrease. Inari Amertron MY:0166, a technology firm, witnessed a drop of 0.9% in their shares. Gamuda MY:5398, engaged in real estate/construction activities, also had a decline of 0.8%.
Southeast Asia Market Updates
In Southeast Asia, Singapore’s FTSE Straits Times Index SG:STI recorded a 0.5% increase. The Thailand SET Index TH:SET, on the other hand, witnessed a substantial rise of 1.5%. The Philippines’ PSEi Index PH:PSEI gained 0.9%, while Indonesia’s JSX Composite Index ID:JAKIDX fell by 0.4%.
Asia-Pacific Region Highlights
Moving on to the Asia-Pacific region, the Hang Seng Index HK:HSI comprising Hong Kong companies saw an impressive increase of 3.6%. Conversely, Japan’s NIKKEI 225 Index JP:NIK experienced a decline of 0.8%. China’s Shanghai Composite Index CN:SHCOMP, however, rose by 1.8%.
Other Asian Markets
South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index KR:180721 witnessed a decline of 0.4%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index AU:XJO added a modest gain of 0.1%.
Currency Update
In terms of currency, the U.S. dollar USDMYR saw a slight rise of 0.1% to 4.73 Malaysian ringgit. Similarly, the euro EURMYR experienced a 0.5% increase, reaching 5.15 ringgit.
