The US posted 10.4 million job openings on the last business day of September, the same as the previous month. The rate of job openings was 6.6%. SPY is up +0.17%, DXY is down -0.06%.
- Job openings rose the highest in healthcare and social assistance at 141,000, followed by state and local government at 114,000. Education at both local and state governments saw 114,000 fewer jobs, while other openings in services fell by 104,000.
- Hires and total separations were also little changed at 6.5 million and 6.2 million, respectively. Quits peaked at a record 4.4 million, with the rate now at 3.0%.
- The rate of layoffs and discharges remained unchanged at 0.9%, with the number at 1.4 million in September.
- In the 12 months ending September, a total of 73.3 million hires were registered, while separations were 67.7 million, resulting in an employment gain of 5.6 million.
