UBS has attracted a highly experienced advisor team from Merrill Lynch, who managed approximately $1.3 billion in client assets. The team, known as The Hart Group, consists of James Hart, Emily Hoag, Natalie Squillace, and Nolan Hart. UBS highlights their specialization in providing financial strategies tailored to athletes and entertainers.
The specific challenges faced by this unique client group, such as sudden wealth and complex family financial dynamics, demand specialized advice and guidance. To meet this growing demand, UBS has enlisted the expertise of Jim and The Hart Group. Wale Ogunleye, the head of UBS’s Athletes & Entertainers Client Segment and a former NFL player, expresses excitement about this expansion of capabilities.
With nearly 40 years of experience in the industry, James Hart brings a wealth of knowledge to UBS. He embarked on his career at E.F. Hutton in 1986 before holding positions at Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley. In 2010, he joined Merrill Lynch.
Emily Hoag started her financial services career at Merrill in 2017. Similarly, Natalie Squillace joined Merrill in 2022 after working at Fidelity. Nolan Hart, the newest addition to the team, previously worked at 2kPAID, a company specializing in helping student athletes monetize their name, image, and likeness.
While a Merrill Lynch spokesperson declined to comment on their departure, UBS has been successful in attracting several large former Merrill Lynch teams. In addition to The Hart Group, UBS has recently hired an experienced advisor team in Chicago that oversaw $1.6 billion in client assets and an ex-Merrill team in New York that managed $2 billion.
