New York Attorney General Investigates AT&T Cell Service Outage
New York Attorney General Letitia James has launched an investigation into the recent cell service outage that impacted thousands of AT&T customers last week. James emphasized the importance of reliable cell service for Americans to facilitate their daily routines.
Consumer Protection in Focus
James stressed the significant impact of nationwide outages on consumers, highlighting the potential dangers associated with such disruptions. She urged affected individuals in New York to report their grievances to her office as part of the ongoing investigation into the causes of the outage and AT&T’s response.
Apology from AT&T
AT&T issued an apology for the incident, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to customers across the country due to the hours-long disruption in cellphone service. The company attributed the outage to an erroneous network expansion process, ruling out any cyberattack as the cause.
In addition to the Attorney General’s inquiry, the White House, security agencies, and regulatory bodies are further examining the circumstances surrounding the outage to prevent future occurrences. AT&T has offered affected customers a $5 billing credit as a gesture of goodwill.
