The annual inflation rate held at 7.4% in the euro area in April 2022, holding steady at the March levels but higher than 1.6% in the prior year. EURUSD is down -0.21% on premarket, DAX is up +0.063%.
- In the EU, annual inflation was at 8.1% in April, accelerating from 7.8% in March and higher than 2.0% in the prior year.
- Inflation rose the highest in the energy category, with a surge of 3.70 percentage points, while services saw a 1.38 percentage points increase. Food, alcohol, & tobacco increased by 1.35 percentage points, while non-energy industrial goods increased by 1.02 percentage points.
- The lowest annual inflation rates were posted in France, Malta, and Finland at 5.4%, 5.4%, and 5.8%, respectively. Inflation rose the highest in Estonia at 19.1%, Lithuania and Czechia at 16.6% and 13.2%, respectively.
