The EU looks ahead to pressuring the US to ease Trump-imposed tariffs ahead of the Brussels meeting next week. EURUSD is up +0.19%. Europe wants the US to end aircraft-related tariffs, as well as steel and aluminum duties before the end of this year.
There is no certainty that the US will agree to lift the tariffs on EU’s request.
President Trump imposed about $7.5 billion worth of tariffs on goods from the EU which escalated tensions between the trading partners. The EU imposed tariffs worth about $4 billion on US goods in retaliatory move against Trump’s actions.
The Brussels meeting will be the first high-level summit between the US and EU since 2014 where they are likely to work on the strained relationship.
