Economic Sentiment Falls by 1.7 Points in the EU and Euro Area in April

The Economic Sentiment Indicator was recorded at 104.9 in the EU and 105.0 in the euro area in April, a decline of 1.7 points in both regions. DAX is down -0.74%, EURUSD is down -0.14%.

• Confidence worsened in industry, with a fall of 0.8 points, retail trade with a decline of 2.0 points, while construction confidence fell by 1.8 points.
• Improvements were noted in financial services with a gain of 1.8 points, while services confidence remained unchanged.
• The ESI fell the most in Spain with minus 4.5 points and France at minus 1.4 points. It shed slightly in the Netherlands and Poland but improved by 1.3 points in Italy. 
• Employment expectations also edged lower, with the index hitting 117.7 in the EU, down by 1.0 points. The indicator was 112.4 in the euro area, a decline of 1.1 points.
