The construction sector in both the Euro area and the European Union retreated in August, dragged mainly by the decline in civil engineering and building activities during the month.
- Seasonally adjusted total construction production in the Euro area declined by 1.3%, and 1.8% in the European Union.
- Building output declined by 1.3%, while civil engineering output declined by 1.9% in the Euro area.
- Bigger declines were seen in the European Union, where building output fell 2.1% and civil engineering down 1.4%.
- The biggest monthly decreases in production were seen in Sweden, Hungary, and Germany.
- The biggest monthly climbs were in Portugal, Slovakia, and Poland.
- The largest annual declines were in construction in Spain, Romania, Slovenia.
- The biggest annual increases occurred in Hungary, Poland, and Finland.
