Canadian manufacturing grew further in September as manufacturers recorded higher production volumes, extending the sector’s growth for the 15th straight month. EWC is down 0.19%.
- The IHS Markit Canada Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index was 57.0 in September, slightly lower than August’s 57.2.
- The latest reading marks the 15th straight month of expansion, with the growth among the biggest in the 11 years of data collection.
- Manufacturers reported growth in their production volumes, albeit at a slower pace than the four-month high recorded in August.
- Demand and new product launches during the month boosted output, with new orders posting a sharp growth but softer than seen the previous month.
- IHS Markit Economist Shreeya Patel noted that while the data indicates positives for Canada, global supply issues remain with shortages leading to higher prices.
- Firms are expected to continue experiencing shortages and price hikes for some time but should be prepared for another busy quarter as they build their input stocks.
